CSCS just informed us that the data center's cooling infrastructure will be undergoing maintenance on Wednesday, 21 September 2016. Since Euler cannot operate without cooling, we are forced to shut down all compute nodes on this day.

  • All compute nodes will be shut down at 7:00 Wednesday morning;
  • All batch queues will be progressively inactivated to ensure that no job is running when the nodes are shut down.

We will do our best to keep Euler on-line during this maintenance. In principle:

  • Login will be possible without interruption;
  • All file systems will remain accessible without interruption;
  • The batch system will be operational; you will be able to submit jobs but they will remain in the queue until compute nodes are up again;
  • All cloud services (virtual data centers, virtual machines) will operate without interruption, possibly with a slight performance degradation.

The duration of the cooling maintenance is not known at this time. We will update this page as soon as we get more information from CSCS.
