Proxy server issues (26.09.2024)
From ScientificComputing
Currently accessing external sources from the compute nodes of Euler through the ETH proxy server does not work.
User trying to access an external source from a compute node will get an HTTP 403 error:
sfux@eu-a2p-031:/cluster/scratch/sfux$ git clone https://github.com/yanlinlin82/libffc Cloning into 'libffc'... fatal: unable to access 'https://github.com/yanlinlin82/libffc/': Received HTTP code 403 from proxy after CONNECT sfux@eu-a2p-031:/cluster/scratch/sfux$
If possible, you can download your dataset from a login node which has full internet access and does not require the proxy server.
We are investigating the issue and will publish updates on this wiki page.
Updates

- It appears that Euler has been blocked on the ETH proxy server probably as a result of excessive and/or abusive connections coming from Euler. We have reported the issue to the administrator of the proxy server, but resolving the issue or finding an alternative solution will take some time. Therefore accessing external resources from the compute nodes of Euler will not be possible until further notice.

- We expect to have a replacement service for the ETH proxy available at the beginning of next week (week of Oct. 7).

- A replacement proxy service is now available. It is automatically used when loading the eth_proxy module. As a new service, it is still in beta testing.
