Urgent maintenance to fix security vulnerability (CVE-2017-6074)

Jump to: navigation, search

Due to the publication of an important security alert,

Euler will be taken off-line next Wednesday to patch the operating system.

The maintenance will start Wednesday, March 1st at 07:00. Normal operation is expected to resume in the afternoon.

This security patch will require a reboot of all login and compute nodes. As usual, batch queues will be progressively inactivated in the days and hours before the maintenance, to ensure that no job is killed when the nodes are rebooted.

No action is required on your part.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Please watch this space for updates before and during the maintenance.

Updates

Please be aware that all 120-hour jobs submitted after 07:00 this morning will be held in the queue until the maintenance is over, to prevent them from being killed when the maintenance starts. If your jobs need less than 120 hours and you don't want to wait until next week, then resubmit them with a lower run-time limit.

Please be aware that all 24-hour jobs submitted after 07:00 this morning will be held in the queue until the maintenance is over, to prevent them from being killed when the maintenance starts. If your jobs need less than 24 hours and you don't want to wait until Wednesday afternoon, then resubmit them with a lower run-time limit.

The login nodes have been patched, rebooted and reopened this morning already. Most compute nodes have been patched and rebooted troughout the day. We are currently running tests to ensure that everything works fine before putting Euler back in production. Once this is done, we will progressively reactivate batch queues, starting with the 4h and 24h queues tonight and, if all goes well, the 120h and 30d queues tomorrow.
